CJP Admonishes Officials Over Delay in Circular Railway Project

KARACHI:Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday conducted hearing on a case pertaining to restoration of Karachi Circular Railways (KCR).

A three-member Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard several important cases at the Karachi Registry of the apex court today.

Secretary Railways, Commissioner Karachi, Mayor Karachi, Advocate General Sindh appeared before the court.

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed asked to the secretary Railways whether court order implemented or not regarding the restoration of circular railway and local trains? to which the secretary railways informed that circular railway can not be restored as the green line has been constructed.

Advocate General Sindh said that this project (circular railway) has become part of the CPEC. we have sent a frame work thrice to the federal government after its completeion.

On which the CJP remarked that “you did’nt restore the circular railway project and contorary put it into the CPEC list while expressing anger on the railways secretary the CJP said”don’t narrate stories to us and don’t talk like an officer.”

The secretary railway replied that Sindh government had taken responsibility of the project, to which the CJP said that “If you can’t do any thing then go to home adding that you are not a employee of someone but a railway secretary.

The railway secretary viwed that the Sindh government is a hurdle in the project and as per the agreement it is responsibility of the provincial government.

The CJP said that “I will summon Chief Minister Sindh to ask who is responsible for the project.” while advocate general sindh said what the secretary railways has said is nothing but a falsification.

Handing over of railways land evacuation of land from occupation was the responsibility of the Railways, advocate general sindh said.

Justice Gulzar said that as per the agreement railway ministry didn’t do its job adding that if you will hurl accusations on each other then nothing will going to happen.

The court also warned of issuing the contempt of court notices to the Chief Minister of Sindh, Mayor Waseem Akhtar and the Secretary Railways during the hearing.

The hearing was briefly adjourned as the court sought a copy of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) report that the KCR had been handed over to the Sindh government.
