Social Media Case: Court Seeks Response From IT Ministry

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court  (IHC) on Monday has asked response from the Ministry of Information Technology against the suggested government laws for the social media.

The IHC Chief Justice Justice Athar Minallah heard the petition against the government suggested laws for the social media.

The counsel of the petitioner Jehangir Khan Jadon said that the government wanted to seize the freedom of the expression from the people, to which, the CJ said that regulations are carried out all around the world.

During course of the hearing, the government responded that a national coordinator is being appointed for the implementation of social media rules 2020 while he will enjoy powers more than an authority, to which, the CJ inquired how the coordinator will be appointed, what will be his qualfication while he said that the government will be asked for this by issuing notice to it.

Later, the court issuing notices to the Ministry of Information Technology and others, has asked to submit reply and adjourned the case until indefinite period.
