People may be concerned about the current coronavirus outbreak in parts of the country. Here’s the latest official advice on staying safe
What precautions are advised?
1.Wash hands thoroughly and often with soap and water, especially after coughing and sneezing or before eating.
2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, especially with unwashed hands.
3.Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.
4.Avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of respiratory illness.
5.Wear a mask if you suspect you are ill, or if you are assisting someone else who is ill.
6.Clean off surfaces with alcohol- or chlorine-based disinfectants.
7.People are also advised not to take any antibiotics or antiviral medication unless they have been prescribed by a doctor.
If you’ve been following the news, you’ve no doubt seen dramatic images of people wearing face masks in Italian towns, or heard that, as in many countries, pharmacies are selling out of the masks as people stock up.
But are the masks actually necessary or helpful in preventing the spread of the virus?
The WHO stated that the masks are only useful if you’re already ill, or if you’re a health professional assisting people who are ill.
