Deaths From Poisonous Gas: FIA Starts Probe

KARACHI:The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched a probe into 14 deaths due to alleged exposure to soybean dust in Keamari area in mid of February.

The investigating authority of the country has summoned the chief executive officer (CEO) of a private company who had imported the controversial soybean shipment in Karachi.

The body has also summoned the clearing and forwarding agents for its inquiry into the incident.

The FIA Corporate Crime Circle had sought answers of its questions and called the clearing agents to appear before it with all relevant documents.

The company was also directed to provide a copy of the agreement with the US cargo ship ‘Hercules’, that had transported the soybean shipment to Karachi.

The investigation agency also sought concerned documents form DG plant protection.

As many as  14 people were lost their lives due to  leakage of toxic gas in the port area.More than 300 people were hospitalized or treated for breathing problems in the city.
